Street Work

During this week 29th August to 2nd September 2011 we are having a literature table in the Scarborough town centre near M & S.   Monday was very cold and windy, but many conversations were held and much literature was taken.

Jesus knew who he was.

Sunday 28th August Dr Gareth Crossley from Ashbourne Baptist Church spoke on
John 13 v 3  "Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,"

1.Who am I?
2.Where have I come from?.
3.and where am I going?

Jesus walks on Water

On 21st August Dr Gareth Crossley from Asbourne Baptist Church spoke on John 6 v 15 -21
Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone. Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

This miraculous sign of Jesus walking on water demonstrates that he is the Christ the Son of the living God.
(John 20 v 30-31  "And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."
Gareth spoke on Jesus his power and presence as the son of God.  He pointed us to Psalm 107 v 25
"For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up the waves of the sea."
That it is God who stirs up the storm and that Jesus is present with us in the midst of the storm.

Embrace Wisdom

On Sunday 14th August Willy Horsburgh from Ryedale Evangelical Church spoke on Proverbs 8  "Embrace Wisdom"
Wisdom is the skill to live in God's way as God's people.   Wisdom's call is to believe in Jesus Christ and to have ones sins forgiven
1. Wisdom is calling
2. Wisdom is attractive
3. Wisdom is value

On Sunday 7th August Dr Gareth Crossley from Ashbourne Baptist Church in Derbyshire
spoke on what it means to be a true follower of Christ on Mark 8 v 34-35

"When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them "Whoever desires to come to Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. "

Following Jesus is the most demanding thing anyone can do.  To follow Jesus demands
1. Self denial
2. Self sacrifice
3 Loyalty to him
